Our Membership consists of community-based watershed management groups on PEI

Watershed management groups on Prince Edward Island play a predominant role in protecting and improving environmental quality on the Island. Their roles include:

• Stream, watercourse, and wildlife habitat evaluation, restoration and protection
• Public information & awareness
• Community-based planning
• Technical guidance/input for communities and residents

Our groups have a rich history of positive, action-based watershed stewardship accomplishments. Because our watershed groups are community-based, their work has local focus. A primary advantage of this unique management strategy is that it creates local ownership for watershed assets and problems. Watershed management on PEI is essentially dependent on the work of these groups. Today, PEI has about 28 watershed groups.
