PEI Watershed Alliance Statement on Organizational Affiliation

Media Release April 02, 2026

The Prince Edward Island Watershed Alliance (PEIWA) is non-profit cooperative association of watershed management groups on Prince Edward Island. Our groups have a rich history of positive, action-based watershed stewardship accomplishments on Prince Edward Island. There are 25 community-based groups on the Island working on their local wildlife habitats.

All 25 watershed groups across this province are legally registered non-profits and charities, operating with transparency, accountability, and a deep commitment to the communities they serve. These organizations are made up of professionals, many with advanced scientific and technical degrees, who are on the ground every single day monitoring rivers, restoring ecosystems, and protecting the very water systems Islanders depend on.

Our groups deliver or support over 300 educational events each year. These are part of a significant effort to engage the public in the work we do.

The Comité Diversité et Equité is not a member of our organization. None of our member groups have a working relationship with this group. None of our groups had any plans or even conversations with this group to do any watershed work or education projects. If the Comité Diversité et Equité had plans to do some sort of watershed education, we were unaware and not consulted.

The PEIWA has a very positive and professional relationship with staff at the Department of Land and Environment. Regular communication occurs between our Executive Director and board chair and the Minister, Deputy Minister and their staff. It is a relationship that we value and expect will continue to assist in meeting the goals of the department and the watershed groups we represent.

Please direct any inquiries to our board chair, Dale McIsaac. Please see contact information below.
