ECOPEI Gains Unwavering Support as PEI Watershed Alliance Condemns SLAPP Suits on Nonprofits
The PEI Watershed Alliance, the umbrella organization that supports all 25 watershed groups on PEI, stands in solidarity with ECOPEI and strongly condemns the Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) suits that have been levied against ECOPEI and others.
SLAPP suits, designed to stifle the voices of nonprofits and public interest groups, have become a rampant threat to the essential work carried out by organizations such as ECOPEI. The PEI Watershed Alliance recognizes the critical role that ECOPEI plays in championing environmental causes and promoting sustainable practices on Prince Edward Island.
In the face of these malicious attempts to curtail the vital work of ECOPEI, the PEI Watershed Alliance calls upon fellow environmental and nonprofit organizations to unite in a collective front against SLAPP suits. It is imperative that we, as a community of like-minded entities, stand together to protect the right to public participation and free expression in matters of environmental concern.
To this end, the PEI Watershed Alliance calls on other environmental and nonprofit groups to join us in endorsing this public letter, expressing our unwavering support for ECOPEI and condemning the use of SLAPP suits as a tool to silence those advocating for the betterment of our communities and the environment.
Together, let us fortify the bonds of our shared commitment to environmental advocacy and stand resolute against the menace of SLAPP suits on nonprofits.
